This is a neat - albeit regrettably single but nevertheless not that often seen! - (I deem) early- (ie. mid-war-) period, so-called: 'M40'-pattern, 'cyphered' WH (Heeres) NCO-type shoulderstrap as was piped in the desirable black- (ie. 'schwarzer'-) coloured branchcolour as was specifically intended for usage by a: 'Feldwebel u. Mitglied des Pionier-Bataillons 4' (or: NCO and sergeant who served within within the army-engineers battalion, numbered: '4') and that comes in an overall nice- (albeit moderately used- ie. just moderately worn-), condition. The shoulderstrap - which measures approximately 12 cms. in length as more often seen - has the neat black-coloured- and/or woolen-type piping attached (as is more encountered with these early war-period shoulderstraps). The shoulderstrap - which originates from a larger cloth- and insignia-collection I recently acquired for the web-site - shows the silverish-grey-toned (ie. non-sub-dued, dotted- ie. early-pattern) NCO-braid attached and comes without tongue: next to this it shows a neat (older-styled, smaller-sized and/or: 'Buntmetall'-based) '4'-cypher (ie. 'Ziffer') and a single (equally styled and/or smaller-sized) pip period-attached (as can be noticed on the pictures). Of additional interest is, moreover, the fact that this strap once showed an embroidered '4'-cypher (which was period-removed by regulation). The strap - that is in my opinion a typical 'standard-issued' example shows some evident age, wear and/or staining and came with a field-grey tunic-button attached (as can be noticed on the pictures). Simply an attractive WH (Heeres) so-called: 'M40'-pattern, NCO-type 'Pioniere'-related shoulderstrap that was intended for usage by a: 'Feldwebel u. Mitglied des Pionier-Bataillons 4': too bad that it is only a single specimen!
