Attractive, copper-bronze-toned- (I deem zinc- ie. 'Feinzink'-based) 'Gebirgsjäger'-related item: a semi-official - and actually not that easily encountered! - commemorative-medal (ie. talisman or 'Url') entitled: 'Eismeerfront - 1942-1943'
This is an attractive - albeit clearly used! - so-called: 'Gebirgsjäger'-related item: a semi-official - and actually not that easily encountered! - commemorative-medal (ie. luck-bringer or talisman ie. 'Url') that is entitled: 'Eismeerfront - 1942-1943' and that comes in an overall nice- (albeit clearly used- ie. worn-), condition. The detailed medal-shaped badge depicts an 'Edelweiss'-flower on its front and comes as found and/or worn: I deem that it deals with a typical zinc- (ie. 'Feinzink'-) based example that shows a copper-bronze-coloured finish (which has been nicely preserved but that shows some obvious wear and/or age: the piece retains, however, still nice and/or pronounced detail). I know that these desirable 'semi-official'-medals are also copied: this is naturally a genuine example that was never before part of a collection and originates from a German private-household. The term 'Eismeerfront' relates to one specific formation: the 'XIX. Gebirgs-Korps'. This 'Korps' had many units in its structure, but the main elements were resp. the: '2.'- and '6. Gebirgs-Division' and/or the '210. Infanterie-Division'. There is not much known about these commemorative 'medals' but they were most certainly 'souvenir'-pieces that could be privately-purchased by the soldiers active in this specific war-area. In any case a nice and surely scarcely seen 'Gebirgsjäger'-related item that is accordingly priced!
