This is a very attractive - and I deem just moderately used- ie. worn - example of an: 'Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse' (or: Iron Cross 1st class) as was executed in the scarcely observed, so-called: 'screw-back-version' being a clearly: 'L/56'-marked example as was produced by the: 'Funcke & Brüninghaus'-company and that comes in an overall very nice- (I deem just moderately used- ie. worn-), condition. The cross - which is a typical non-vaulted ie. non-converse-shaped example as more often - has with certainty never been cleaned and retains a minimally blackened- (ie. tarnished-) age-patina and/or great pronounced detail. This example - which is an evident specimen as was produced by the: 'Funcke & Brüninghaus'-company as was based in the town of Lüdenscheid - comes mounted onto its functional 'screw-back'- (ie. 'an der Schraube'-) set-up. The small 'pin' (present to additionally and/or firmly attach the cross to a tunic) is naturally also present and in place (as can be seen on the pictures). This piece - which shows a nicely 'blackened' and/or fairly 'satin-like'- ie. 'matted' inner-core shows some moderate wear but is totally void of any paint-loss (the makers'-designation: 'L/56' is stamped on the back of the 'Schraube' as to be expected by ICs from the maker). The cross is just a bit dirty and tarnished simply caused by years of storage and/or moderate wear but retains a great unmessed-with and/or uncleaned, age-patina: a fair bit of its polished-sides (ie. 'hochpolierte Kanten') have been nicely preserved (as can be seen on the pictures). This desirable - and most certainly not that often seen! - piece originates from a private-household in Germany and was never before part of a collection: I deem that I have priced this attractive - and just moderately worn! - IC first-class, according to its desirablity and totally untouched condition!
