This is an attractive and with certainty scarcely found example of a - simply never used- nor tunic-attached! - 'early pattern' WH (Heeres) breast-eagle (ie. 'Brustadler für Mannschaften u. Unteroffiziere des Heeres') as executed in the so-called: 'BeVo'-type-weave-pattern that comes pre-mounted onto a piece of field-grey-coloured wool as was specifically intended for usage by soldiers (ie. NCOs) on their dress-tunics (ie. 'Waffenröcke' or: 'Ausgeh'-uniforms) and that comes in an overall nice- (I deem still 'virtually mint- ie. unissued'-), condition. The piece is 'off-factory'-folded and/or carefully trimmed and was 'off-factory'- ie. period-sewn onto a piece of field-coloured- and/or smooth-type wool as to be expected. It deals with the detailed ('standard-pattern'- and very early-period) type WH (Heeres) breasteagle (as executed in white toned linnen onto a dito linnen-based and greyish-greend-coloured background) that saw usage on most (pre-war- and/or even 'Reichswehr'-period-) field-grey-coloured, so-called: 'Waffenröcke' or: 'Ausgehjacken'. The piece was (I deem) simply never used nor tunic-attached but does shows some minimal moth-damage on its woolen-based 'backing'. Great to restore any 'Waffenrock' or to be stored as such in any insignia-collection!
