Superb, luxeriously-styled WWI-period 'Eisernes Kreuz I. Kl.' (or: iron cross first-class) being a maker- (ie. 'K.A.G.'-) marked example as executed in silver-based material and that comes stored in its period- (and scarcely seen!) purple-toned etui
This is an attractive - and actually not that easily found! - example of a luxeriously-styled, WWI-period 'Eisernes Kreuz I. Klasse' (or: iron cross first-class) being a neatly maker- (ie. 'K.A.G.'-) marked example as executed in (tarnished) (I deem) genuine silver-based material and that comes stored in its period- (and rarely seen!) purple-coloured etui (having a detailed IC-illustration ie. decal on its top) as issued and/or stored for decades. The cross - which shows a clear makers'-designation (ie. 'K.A.G.') stamped on its back - was with certainty never cleaned and has a nice and/or very attractive age-patina: it has a darkened- (ie. somewhat 'blackened') finish (as can be seen on the pictures). The cross has a nicely preserved, black-finished (ie. somewhat 'satin-like'- ie. 'shiny-style'-) core: it is void of any damage or paint-loss and has been truly nicely preserved (as can be seen on the pictures). The piece is just a tiny bit dusty and/or stained but was never cleaned nor polished. The cross came stored into its period- (and actually rarely seen!) purle-coloured etui (that shows an unusally seen and very detailed illustration of an IC on its top and that is 'lined' with purple-coloured velvet as can be seen on the pictures). This etui is equally nicely preserved and is void of any damage or alike. The set was recently found at a German private household and was never before in collectors'-hands. To date the maker (ie. 'Hersteller') with the abbreviation: 'K.A.G.' is not 100% identfied but is most likely only produced between 1917 and 1918 by a maker from Bratislava (in Slovakia) named: 'Franz Kühmayer A.G.'. It should be noted that these complete and luxeriously-styled, WWI-period 'Eisernes Kreuz I. Klasse'-sets by the maker: 'K.A.G.' are quite scarcely encountered and are not that often appearing on todays' market. Simply a very attractive example that is priced according to its untouched condition and comparative scarcity!
