This is an attractive - and with certainty scarcely encountered! - 1957-version of a golden-bronze-toned, WH (Kriegsmarine) related so-called: 'Westwerft-Leistungsabzeichen' (or: U-boat shipyard ie. bunker-worker lapel-pin) being a very nicely preserved example that comes in a (I deem) just minimally used- ie. worn, condition. The very detailed pin is totally void of a makers'-designation and depicts a 'Zahnrad'-device that shows a detailed U-boat-illustration. The somewhat smaller-sized lapel-pin (only sized: 3,5 x 2,8 cms.) is executed in darker-brown-toned 'Buntmetall' (ie. 'Tombac') and comes naturally mounted onto its functional (albeit minimally bent) long-sized pin (as can be noticed on the pictures). The 'Westwerft-Leistungsabzeichen' was founded in August 1944 by Vice-Admiral and shipyard-manager Walter Matthiae and was a specific 'performance-award' for shipyard-workers active at the various submarine-shipyards of the 'Kriegsmarine' in respectively: La Pallice, Brest, Saint-Nazaire and/or Lorient. The badge was awarded for maintenance and repair work on submarines as well as for improvements to submarine machinery and technology. It should be noted that this is a seldomly-seen 1957-version of a naval-award that is not that often seen!
