Very unusual, WWI-period: 'Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse' (or: iron cross second class) being maker- (ie. 'M'-) marked example that came stored in its (very unusual & possibly unique!) larger-sized presentation-case
This is an attractive example of an (I deem) issued - but never worn- nor even mounted! - example of a WWI-period: 'Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse' (or: iron cross second class) being a neat maker- (ie. 'M'-) marked example that came stored in its (very unusual and possibly unique!) larger-sized presentation-case ie. etui as recently found. The detail on this example is nicely preserved: it has - I deem - never been cleaned nor polished and has an attractive and/or minimally tarnished age-patina (as can be seen on the pictures). The cross came together with its (two) non-folded (minimally shortened and/or confectioned) ribbons (ie. 'Bandabschnitte') which are both attached in the etui. The IC truly retains nice details and shows a clearly-impressed makers'-designation in its ring that reads: 'M' (as can be seen on the pictures). The cross has a nicely preserved, black-finished (ie. somewhat 'satin-like'- ie. 'shiny-style'-) core and is void of any real damage or paint-loss and has been truly nicely preserved. The piece is just a tiny bit dusty and/or stained but was never cleaned nor polished (as can be seen on the pictures). The piece came stored in its (very unusual and possibly unique!) larger-sized, bordeaux-red-coloured and semi-leather-based presentation-case ie. etui (which measures: 22 x 14 x 2,8 cms) and that shows a (very detailed- and nicely-preserved!) illustration of the IC on its top (as can be noticed on the pictures). The case shows a lining of greyish-beige-toned, velvet-based material that is additionally piped with red-black-white-toned 'braid' as can be noticed on the pictures. Moreover, does it show a copper-toned- and enlogated 'plaque' (that is void of any engraving but that was I deem intended for just this purpose). I am of the opinion that this truly luxuriously-styled presentation-set was specifically intended for officers'-usage or alike. Simply a neat WWI-period 'EKII. Klasse'-set that is with certainty accordingly priced!
