This is an attractive - albeit regrettably single! - WH (Heeres) 'cyphered' officers'-type shoulderboard as was piped in the bright-red- (ie. 'hochroter'-) coloured branchcolour as was specifically intended for a: 'Hauptmann eines Artillerie-Beobachtungs-Abteilungs' (or: captain who served within an army, artillery observers'-unit or regiment) and that comes in an overall very nice- (albeit clearly used ie. worn and/or carefully tunic-removed-), condition. The board which is as stated above executed in the bright-red-coloured branchcolour - is executed in the 'smooth-type'-wool having a somewhat sub-dued, silver-coloured 'upperdeck'. It comes mounted onto its (typical, thin-shaped) tongue and measures approximately 10,2 cms. in length as more often. The board shows a neat (larger-sized, bright golden-toned) Gothic-styled 'B'-cypher and two (equally-styled) pips period-attached denoting the officers'-rank of a: 'Hauptmann eines Artillerie-Beobachtungs-Abteilungs'. All three devices show some minimal age ie. tarnish but still retain a nice 'frosted' and/or golden-toned finish (as can be seen on the pictures). The piece orginates from an older and larger-sized collection of single shoulderstraps and boards that was compiled over decades and that I recently acquired for the web-site. Simply an attractive, 'cyphered' officers'-type board that was intended for an army 'Hauptmann' and/or artillery observer: too bad that it is only a single specimen!
