This is a very attractive - and actually rarely seen! - example of a WH (Heeres) trade- and/or special-career insignia (ie.: 'Laufbahn- o. Tätigkeitsabzeichen') being a very detailed- and/or greyish-silver-toned- and zinc- (ie. 'Feinzink'-) based example as was executed on a piece of field-grey-coloured wool as was specifically intended for usage by an army: 'Steuermann' (ie. enigineer-boat-pilot or helmsman) being an example that comes in an overall very nice- (I deem issued- albeit never tunic-attached-), condition. The patch (ie. anchor-device) is beautifully executed in somewhat tarnished, silverish-grey-coloured zinc that retains all its (four) prongs and come firmly mounted onto its (oval-shaped and metal-based) 'backing-plate': moreover, is it neatly backed with a piece of greyish-toned linnen (as can be seen on the pictures). The badge just shows some minimal age ie. staining simply caused by decades of storage and handling. This is actually a rarely encountered 'Pioniere'- (ie. engineers-) related trade-patch that is (I deem) very much underestimated by the collectors'-community. Simply a superb - example of this desirable Heeres 'Sturm-Pioniere'-related arm-patch!
