Superb - and actually rarely seen! - golden-toned WH (Heeres) 'Gebirgsjäger'-related item: a semi-official, commemorative-medal (aka: 'Url') depicting a representation of the famous '5. Gebirgsjäger-Division'-related, 'Gams'-symbol
This is an attractive - and actually rarely found! - golden-toned- and/or - I deem - typical copper-based, WH (Heeres) 'Gebirgsjäger'-related item: a semi-official, commemorative-medal (aka: 'Url' or: luck-bringer) depicting a representation of the famous '5. Gebirgsjäger-Division'-related, 'Gams'-symbol and that comes in an overall very nice- (albeit clearly used- ie. worn-), condition. The oval-shaped piece (approximately sized: 4,4 x 3 cms.) depicts a neat (comical) illustration of the divisional-symbol of the '5. Gebirgsjäger-Division' (being a 'Gams') with in the back a mountain-scenery. On its back it shows the superimposed text: 'Ski Wettkämpfe März 1945 - Westalpenfront'. The piece is constructed from (quite heavy-weight) bright-golden-toned copper and shows most of its 'golden-like' finish: it has really nice and/or pronounced detail. I know that these desirable 'semi-official'-medals are also copied: this is naturally a genuine example that was never before part of a collection and originates from a German-household where it was recently uncovered. There is not much known about these commemorative 'medals' but they were most certainly highly desirable 'souvenir'-pieces that could be won by the soldiers active in this war-area (even that late in the war ie. in 1944 ie. 1945!). In any case is this a very attractive - and without doubt scarcely seen! - 'Gebirgsjäger'-related item!
